Depending on the size of your house, it can feel impossible to keep up with it. The more rooms you have, the more cleaning and maintenance there is.
But no matter how big (or small) your house is, you should have one room that family and friends can easily relax in. I call it the “gathering” room.
It should be a room where people gather and are made to feel comfortable and cozy. It is the room where a warm ambience is felt.
So how do you make that happen? First, think comfort. More than likely this room will be your living or family room. But for others it could just as easily be the kitchen or dining room.
Comfortable chairs, large pillows and plenty of seating are some ways to achieve comfort. If your dining room or kitchen is large enough, you might even have a loveseat or a couple of large chairs.
In addition to comfort, it should feel inviting. What better way to do this than decorate it with family pictures. Candles and fresh flowers are a nice touch as well.
Fill it with things you enjoy such as a large music selection, movies, games, books, magazines, scrapbooks and the like. The point is to make this room something that others would naturally want to gravitate to.
Because this is the “gathering” room, you want to make sure it is always ready for guests. If there is one room in your home that you should maintain on a daily basis, make sure it is this one.
If you don’t have a room like this, spend some time today considering which one would be the best for this. Then make a list of the things you would need to do to make it happen.
You don’t have to spend a lot of money. Go rummaging or visit a thrift shop. When you invest in a room like this, you get back so much more.
