The Inventor / Devising Personality Type

The “Inventor / Devising” Personality Type, or the ENTP personality type, describes a person who is an Extrovert (E), who perceives the world through their Intuition (I), who relies on Thinking (T), to problem solve and make decisions, and who views the world from the vantage point of being open to Perceiving (P) ideas that are brand new, and different from, their own.

If you are an extrovert, you enjoy interacting with the outside world around you, as well as the people in it. You thrive from this attention, and very much prefer it to being alone with your own thoughts. You like to use your intuition to give you information that goes beyond the facts of a given situation, and like to use logic and consistency to help you solve the problems that you face. You view the outside world by identifying ideas that are new and different to your own, and you are open to hearing about and considering those new ideas.

The parenting style of a person with an ENTP personality emphasizes independence, and is filled with energy. You are a very self-assured person, and you encourage your child to become a self-confident, independent, individual as well. You enjoy exploring what the world has to offer, and like to bring your child along with you on these adventures. This is because you really enjoy spending time with your child, and also because you want your child to have the opportunity to explore new places and things, and to learn from those experiences in his own way. You will change an established routine, or bend a rule, in order to let your child experience a challenging new activity. When your child comes to you with a problem, you are able to provide a “big picture” viewpoint for him. You point out a variety of options that could be a way to solve the problem, and allow your child to choose for himself which path to follow. You want your child to learn the consequences of the decisions that he makes, and the only way to do that is to have him make his own decisions about what to do in a given situation, and to learn from the results of acting on that choice.

A child who grows up with an ENTP parent becomes very independent. He has had plenty of opportunities to explore the world around him, and has learned a lot from those experiences. He knows what he enjoys, what he doesn’t like, and what he is good at. These experiences have helped to shape him into a self-confident individual. He knows that he can come to his ENTP parent with a problem, and that his parent will offer advice about what could possibly be done to solve it. He understands that the ENTP parent will not judge him, or tell him what to do. He learns that life has a lot to offer, and that his ENTP parent is a fun person to do things with.

If your child has an ENTP personality he will grow up and choose a career that is challenging, and offers a lot of new stimulation. He will avoid employment situations that require him to follow a standard operating procedure, and do things the same way all the time. The adult with an ENTP personality will become a System Designer, a Financial Advisor, or a Teacher. He may also become a Real Estate Agent, a Computer Scientist, or a Politician.
