There are a lot of pros and cons to working from home. If you are thinking of starting a home business or are searching for a work-from-home job, you might want to consider the good and the bad. This blog will focus on the positive aspects of working from home. In my next blog I will talk about the negatives.
Many people tend to think that working from home is the ideal situation. Yes it may be in many ways but like anything else in life, there are some downsides to it. Making the decision to work from home requires thinking about both sides of the coin.
Let’s first consider the pros to working from home. For many parents, especially moms, this might be the ideal solution in being able to stay home with your children. This allows you the opportunity to be engaged and connected with your children. It is almost like you have the best of both worlds. You are able to help contribute financially to the household, yet you get to be home with your children.
Another pro to working from home is the flexibility. Most work-at-home jobs allow for flexibility. As a freelance writer, I really appreciate the fact that I can work at 6 a.m. if I like or midnight. Of course not every work-from-home job allows for flexibility so that must be taken into consideration.
Right now it is 7:09 a.m. and I am sitting out on my deck while I type this. This is yet another pro for me. I can work inside or outside. I do have an office in my home, which is recommended if you can manage. However sometimes I get tired of sitting at my desk. Sometimes I will work in my dining room and sometimes outside. This is just one of those pros that you might not have ever considered.
I have heard some people who work from home say that they love being able to stay in their pajamas if they like. That is definitely a pro, should that be something you choose. Many times I will start writing some pieces before I get ready for the day. It’s kind of nice to know that I don’t have to put on makeup before heading to work.
Working from home can save you a lot of money. You aren’t spending money on gas, parking and any other number of expenses that are associated with working outside the home. You don’t have to worry about commuting, getting along with co-workers or enduring office politics.
There are definitely a lot of advantages to working from home. Look for my next blog where I counter this with some of the cons to working from home.
