The Real Mom’s Guide to Feeding Your Baby Solids: The Quirks

baby apple Forget all of the information about feeding your baby. Here is what you need to know, although no one ever seems to get around to telling you.

I’m sure that when it comes to first feeding your baby solid foods, you have already read most of the literature out there that tells you when to start, what to feed, etc. Well, I am here with the voice of experience, and three kids, to tell you what those other sources won’t tell you–all of the important stuff that makes feeding solids just a little easier.

Know Your Baby’s Quirks

Once you figure out your baby’s particular feeding quirks, it will things a whole lot easier. Every baby is his or her own person. This makes life fun but feeding sometimes difficult. I’ll give you an example.

For my oldest son, he would get distracted easily when being bed and decide that he wanted to do something else. We learned that if we developed a rhythm of feeding him spoon after spoon without interruption, he would continue to eat until full.

This trick had no effect on my second child, a daughter, who seemed to never want to eat at all, until we figured out that she preferred her food hot, even the fruits. If the food wasn’t close to scalding, she would spit it out and refuse any more.

My third son would eat happily, as long as we fed him at the table while everyone else was eating at the same time. He would take seemingly forever to eat, but as long as we sat there and gave him that time, he would finish his food.

A good friend of mine had a child who would not eat unless Sponge Bob Square Pants was on the television at the time. Don’t worry, he didn’t grow up to be a wise-cracking television addict. But the show engaged him enough to stimulate his appetite.
