The Ultimate Celebrity Yard Sale

I love a good yard sale and apparently, I missed THE yard sale of all yard sales last weekend. It was held at a $3.5 million dollar Montclair, New Jersey home where Michael Strahan, the New York Giants defensive end, used to live. Was Michael just trying to get rid of a few extra things? Maybe Michael was trying to earn a little extra money to help supplement that $20+ salary the Giants are paying him?

Nope, turns out it is just another case of “hell hath no fury like a woman scorned.” I wonder if William Congreve, who wrote those now famous words in the late 17th century, had any idea just how furious a scorned woman could get. Strahan’s ex-wife Jean was actually the one that held the yard sale.

The couple, who have twin 2-year-old daughters, filed for divorce in March 2005, but it quickly became nasty. There were reports of physical abuse, infidelity and out of control spending. Earlier this year, Jean was granted $15.3 million dollars – half of Michael’s assets – plus $180,000 a month in child support (how many children is she supporting?) in their divorce. Michael willingly handed over $6.5 million, but then said the other half was too much.

The court granted Michael a temporary stay to the order and are going to decide if it is too much money or not. I have read that the prenuptial agreement that Michael had Jean sign said she got half of all their joint marital assets plus 20% of his yearly income for each year they were married. Ouch. Sounds to me like Michael’s biggest problem is not his ex-wife, but his lawyers.

Until the court decides the case, Jean did what a woman had to do. With only $6.5 million to her name, she decided to clean house – literally! She was selling $300 dresses for $20, a set of Michael’s game worn gloves for $50, televisions for $50 each, and picture frames for $2 each. Some of Michael’s fans were happy to get the items while some people complained she was overpricing items.
