The Ultrasound

As soon as our third prenatal came to a close, we were on our way to the ultrasound clinic where we were meeting our midwife. We had been excitedly awaiting our ultrasound date for three weeks (what a great birthday present for my husband; to see his unborn child via ultrasound!)!

Upon arrival we quickly filled out the required paperwork and waited for our midwife to arrive and for the ultrasound technician to get the room prepared for our ultrasound. In a matter minutes we were ushered into the ultrasound room.

Both my husband and I noticed right away the large projector screen across from the nicely cushioned exam table. With the ultrasound for our son we were craning our necks to see the small monitor that was capturing our son’s movements. That was not the only thing we noticed; the room was set up more like one’s house than an exam room. After getting situated on the bed like table, the ultrasound technician (I will call her Maggie), squirted warm gel medium (a welcomed difference from the ultrasound with our son) onto my stomach in the shape of a heart and our midwife even took a picture (just too cute). Our midwife asked us what we were wanting to find out, to which I quickly replied “boy or girl!”

Maggie moved the wand around on my lower abdomen and our baby’s profile came into view on the the large screen. As Maggie moved the wand over my belly, she explained exactly what we were seeing: arm, ten fingers, head circumference, leg, GIRL PARTS (I cried happy tears!) ten toes, face, hands by face, eyes, nose, mouth, a yawn, heart, kidneys etc. We even got to see a few stills of our baby girl’s face etc in 3D (something we were not expecting because the 3D ultrasound was more expensive). Maggie told us that our baby girl looked perfect with nothing out of the ordinary showing up on the ultrasound. We were happy; we have a healthily growing baby girl!
