Mother’s Day is fast approaching. Fortunately, you still have enough time to get a memorable gift for mom that will prove just how much you love her. If you don’t have enough cash to say it with diamonds, pearls or an expensive vacuum, consider making the following affordable and heartfelt items that are sure to show mom how priceless she is:
SHELL ART
If your mom loves the beach, consider making these simple seashell-themed gifts. The items don’t require using your entire shell collection to create; rather, you can pick up a bag of shells from the Dollar Store or in the craft aisle at your favorite discount store and embellish inexpensive keepsakes, such as:
Planter: Decorate a plain clay flower pot by gluing shells around the base. Or, spell out mom’s name with the shells.
Earrings: Glue small shells onto metal clip-on earring backs to make stylish jewelry for mom to wear to Mother’s Day brunch.
Curtain Tiebacks: Repurpose an old belt or buy cheap fabric curtain tiebacks from IKEA and embellish them with seashells of varying sizes and shapes.
CANDLE HOLDER
Materials:
- Clean baby food jars with labels removed
- Paint
- Paint brushes
- Glue
- Glitter
- Small votive candles
Directions:
Use the paint to decorate each jar. Get creative by designing flowers, hearts, a beach scene or a sunset. Next, cover the entire jar with glue and liberally apply glitter. Shake excess glitter off. When it’s dry, add the candle to the holder.
STAINED GLASS VASE
You don’t need to spend an arm and a leg purchasing an authentic stained glass piece for mom. Instead, put your crafting skills to good use by making a faux stained glass vase. All you need is a bunch of colored tissue paper cut into one-inch squares, a clean glass vase or old mayonnaise jar, diluted glue and a paintbrush. Simply adhere the colored tissue squares to the vase in a random pattern. When the tissue paper is dry add another coat of the diluted glue over the entire vase. When the glue sets, tie a ribbon around the top of the vase or jar, and then fill with pretty flowers before presenting to mom.
