Top 5 Household Gadgets

Now I don’t know about you, but my favorite gifts at Christmastime are not household products. This actually brings me back to my first Christmas with my husband, 20 years ago.

Imagine my surprise when I unwrapped one gift after another, only to discover I was receiving household items. As if the colander and potato masher weren’t bad enough, he actually bought me canning supplies.

Okay, let me explain something here. I am not a country girl, I am as city as city can get. So I don’t have the slightest clue about canning. And to be honest, about the best thing I could cook when we were first married was fried ring bologna and Kraft Mac n Cheese.

Whatever demon entered my husband’s mind to think these were good gift ideas has thankfully since left. Let’s just say he will never, ever buy me another household product for Christmas again.

But…that doesn’t mean others don’t enjoy receiving these types of gifts. In fact, sometimes these can make really great gifts because they might be items you would never be willing to spend your own money on but sure wish someone else would.

So here are my top five household gadget ideas, just in case you know of someone who would love this type of gift or if you are the complete opposite of me and wouldn’t mind receiving this type of gift.

First is a touch-less trash can. These are pretty cool. Friends of ours have one and I actually entertained myself for a few moments waving my hand over their can. If you think about it, it’s a really great idea for not only keeping germs away but you can carry something in both hands and get it into the can easily.

Second is a robotic vacuum or mop. I don’t know about you, but the idea of sitting back and relaxing while something else does the vacuuming or mopping sounds pretty appealing to me.

Third is a self-cleaning litter box. It is my least favorite job to do. To not have that to deal with would definitely make my world a whole lot easier (but I still wouldn’t want it for a gift).

Fourth is an air purifier. These actually work great. With three dogs and a cat, these do a great job at keeping the air in our home cleaner. But we also use them for background noise when sleeping at night.

Last is the Keurig coffeemaker. I wasn’t willing to splurge on one in the beginning because I wasn’t sure how I would like it. So we bought the mini one. Now I’m waiting for that to break so I
can get a bigger one. This is a great way to get a cup of coffee quickly and with a variety of coffee flavors to choose from.

Happy holiday shopping!
