Sun, surf and half-naked college coeds are quintessential elements of spring break. However, if you are traveling solo or have a gaggle of little ones to entertain, you might not want to share sand with a bunch of drunken college kids. If you are looking for spring break destinations that don’t attract the “Girls Gone Wild” crowd, consider the following:
Bermuda: The picturesque island is located roughly 650 miles east of Cape Hatteras, North Carolina. Known for its luxurious pink sand beaches, the popular vacation destination offers families a quiet retreat from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Its proximity to the East Coast also makes it ideal for spring break escapes. However, because of its reputation for being so tranquil, college students often bypass it for towns that offer more in the way of nightlife and debauchery.
California: If you prefer to visit a familiar area that caters to multiple generations, consider spending your spring break in the Golden State. California is the perfect destination for travelers of all ages. Southern California in particular is crammed with family-friendly attractions, from San Diego’s Balboa Park and world-renown zoo to Santa Barbara’s seemingly endless stretch of sand and surf.
Mexico: It’s true that Mexico attracts hordes of partying 20-somethings during spring break. However, there are places south of the border that you can escape to without having to worry about drunken coeds. While Cancun has gained the infamous title of “College Spring Break Headquarters,” places like Riviera Maya cater to families. The beaches there are pristine, and most of the area’s resorts are all-inclusive, which is perfect for clans on a budget. In addition, Riviera Maya has a variety of kid-friendly amenities, including snorkeling, interactive water parks, dolphin encounters and ATV and zip line tours. What’s more, nearly all of the hotels in Riviera Maya offer babysitting services, so you and your honey can sneak in some alone time.
