Does a large chunk of your monthly grocery bill get spent on diapers? Even with coupons, diapers can add as much as $20 to your bill. Yikes. In past articles, I’ve talked about some ways to save, including using cloth diapers, buying generic disposable diapers and strategies for buying name brand diapers for less.
But recently, I discovered two new ways for saving money on diapers, and I just wanted to share them with you.
Have you ever noticed organic diapers in your grocery store? I certainly haven’t, and neither have most people I am guessing. The reason for my assumption is that I found packs and packs of them on my grocery store’s clearance rack. Apparently no one was buying them, so they were marked way down, below prices of the regular name brand diapers. These organic diapers were dye free, chemical free and made without formaldehyde (and no, I had no idea that regular diapers were made with the stuff!). I loved these diapers for my son, and we saved a bunch. Also at the rack were tons of name brand pull ups that had bent packaging. One or two packages had a slight tear in them, but the tears were so small that you couldn’t even poke a finger in them. There lay great savings for anyone who discovered them.
Another great discovery I recently made concerns Luvs diapers. The Luvs seem to be cut a bit more generously. That means that a baby could stay in the smaller size of Luvs for longer than he or she could in another brand of diaper. Diapers cost the same for the same size packages in a brand, but you generally get more diapers in the smaller sizes. So, if you can keep your little one in a size 3 for three extra months, you will gain at least 30 extra diapers for free, sometimes more depending on the package size you usually purchase.
