Upcoming Genealogy Events – Week of April 1, 2012

1930s outfits Have you been considering taking a genealogy class, or attending a genealogy workshop or event? Why not give it a try this week? Here is a quick list of genealogy events that will be happening all across the United States. If you don’t see one here that is located near you, I would suggest checking your local newspaper for more.

On April 1, 2012, the Muskogee Public Library, which is located in Muskogee, Oklahoma, is having a unique genealogy event to celebrate the release of the 1940 Census. Those who attend should dress the way that people did in the 1940’s. The event will start at 5:00 in the evening and end at 7:00 at night. There will be a few special guests, including Uncle Sam and Rosie the Riveter. Music from that era will be played, and refreshments will be served.

On April 4, 2012, the Recreation Department at the Milano Senior Center, which is located in Melrose, Massachusetts, will hold the second of three genealogy workshops. Each one will take place on a Wednesday, from 6:00 in the evening to 7:00 at night. This second workshop will be about using the best computer websites for family research and advanced search techniques.

On April 4, 2012, the College Office of Community Outreach, at Spoon River College, which is located in Canton, Illinois, will hold the second of four genealogy classes in a series. This class is called “Setting Up Your Research”. It will be taught by Dave Barbknecht. The class will start at 5:30 in the evening at end at 8:30 at night. It will cost $10.00 to attend.

On April 4, 2012, the Morningside Library, which is located in Port St. Lucie, Florida, will offer one on one genealogy assistance. It will begin at 12:30 in the afternoon, and will end at 4:30 in the afternoon.

On April 4, 2012, the Athens Community Council on Aging, which is located in Athens, Georgia, will hold a genealogy class called “Finding Those Who Served: Military Records”. It will begin at 1:00 in the afternoon and will end at 2:30 in the afternoon. It is free for CAL members. Non-members can sign up with CAL for a $25 membership fee. Pre-registration is required.

On April 7, 2012, the Albany Public Library, which is located in Albany, Oregon, will hold a meeting of the Linn Genealogical Society. They will hear a presentation by Patrice Peterson which is called “The Mayflower Society”. She will present a slideshow that illustrates the difficulties that the Mayflower passengers faced, and will talk about the Mayflower Society’s efforts to preserve their unique place in history.
