Valentine’s Day for Single Parents

Is Valentine’s Day only for lovebirds? I don’t think so. Should single parents be frustrated with being single on a day that focuses so heavily on couples? I hope not. I think that Valentine’s Day can be a fun day for us and our children.

While it may be a reminder of being in a romantic relationship, the red hearts showing up everywhere shouldn’t have a negative impact on single parents. If you are happy being single on other days of the year, you should also be happy on Valentine’s Day. If you are looking for someone to enter into a relationship with, just remember they will come along when the time is right.

With all of the Valentine’s Day displays up in every Wal-Mart, Winn-Dixie and pharmacy, it is hard to simply ignore this holiday. Personally, I love chocolate too much to overlook this perfect opportunity to purchase candy.

Having kids makes Valentine’s Day an opportunity to do to fun crafts. We have all seen the boxes of themed Valentine’s Day cards for trading with their friends. My son isn’t in school so I thought we would make handmade Valentine’s Day cards for friends and family.

Making cards is a fun craft that my son and I can do together. Sending handmade cards to our close friends and family gives them a keepsake from my son. I feel sure this would brighten the day of most grandparents, aunts and uncles.

Lastly, Valentine’s Day is a great opportunity to do something for ourselves. What better day to take time to relax? After the children are asleep for the night, choose a relaxing activity that you normally pass up in order to do some laundry or cleaning.

Perhaps you could take the bubble bath you’ve been trying to find time for. I think I’ll make time for scrapbooking. What could you do to indulge yourself during this opportunity of time spent alone?
