Values that Last: Conclusion

I found this series not only to be encouraging to me in my own Christian walk, but has kept me accountable as well. Each week I’ve made great effort to attend church and take notes as our pastor elaborated on each session. Developing values that will last is critical in our faith. It’s important to know which convictions we are to stand by and why.

Values that Last: Intro: My hope here was to get others involved in discussion through Families.com’s forum. Thank you to those of you who participated and shared your thoughts. My hope was to connect with my husband more through discussion in this series—and that too happened.

Choosing My Standard: This talked about the decay of truth in our society through individualism, secularism, relativism and the redefinition of tolerance. I shared thoughts in specific areas of life I see decay happening in: politics, business, entertainment, education, and religion.

Why My Beliefs Matter: Here we looked at different world views including materialism, narcissism, hedonism, pragmatism, naturalism, humanism, and theism. Addressed was ways to strengthen our world views.

Deciding Right from Wrong: We looked at eight pleasures of society here: eating, sex, television, gambling, drinking, movies, smoking, and drugs. Then addressed was things we can ask ourselves to help ourselves make right decisions based on what the word of God says.

Living With Integrity: I defined integrity and addressed how I incorporate integrity into various aspects of my life: home and family, work and colleagues, social life and friends, church and ministry, community and acquaintances, and finances and material possessions. I then shared some scriptural references for encouragement in living with integrity.

Overcoming Injustice: We looked at the age old question, “Why do bad things happen to good people.” I shared scripture behind several scenarios and explanations as to why God allows bad things to happen.

How in the World Will We Live?: Here, in addition to scriptural references from the Bible, I addressed answers to the question of, “How are we as Christians supposed to live in a corrupt society?”

I hope you’ve found this series to be thought provoking and encouraging. May God bless you as you apply His word in your Christian walk.
