Lose Weight for Just Pennies a Day

I remember when I was growing up, there were always ads on television about the Children’s Fund and other charity organizations that urged individuals to sign up for their programs and bring food and water to children for just pennies a day. For the cost of a cup of coffee, you could bring food and water daily to children in countries in other parts of the world. The following suggestion, has likely been tried somewhere, though I’ve not seen it yet. My suggestion is to lose weight by not focusing on feeding yourself less, but by focusing on feeding others … Continue reading

Giving Some Weight to How We Think About Weight Loss

I talked about apathy the other day and I got a great response from Fit4Life on the subject of why it’s hard to write about weight loss motivators. Hats off to you for providing such great insight to the topic. A lot of us don’t necessarily know what is motivating our weight loss. It may be that we’ve experienced a health issue or bad diagnosis. Maybe we tried on those jeans we used to be able to wear and we can’t snap the button anymore. It could be we just don’t like what we see in the mirror or we’re … Continue reading

Pop Culture Updates: New Name, New Show, and a New Life

You waited, you wondered, you might have even ventured a guess or two. Well, now the wait is finally over. Oscar-winner Halle Berry just revealed the name of her newborn daughter… Nahla Ariela Aubry. Nahla… say it with me… GNAW-lah. Yes, it’s pronounced very similar to the name of Simba’s gal pal, Nala, in Disney’s popular 1994 animated feature film The Lion King. Nala means, “gift” in Swahili. But Nahla means honeybee in Arabic. The infant was born Sunday morning and is the first child for the actress and her model boyfriend, Gabriel Aubry. The Academy Award-winner told TV’s “Access … Continue reading

You: The Success Story

When the weekend comes, what do you do? Do you go, go, go or stay in bed? May I make a suggestion? When Saturday comes, pretend it’s Monday, and get moving. Set your alarm clock for the time you normally wake up, during the week, and head to the gym. Don’t have a gym membership? Put on your sweats and sneakers; turn on the television and workout to one of the early morning exercise programs. I think you know where I’m going with this; you need to exercise. Practically every book that I’ve read combines a balanced diet with regular … Continue reading

Liquid Diets – Do They Work?

As I was thinking about my own experience with weight loss programs and the things I have tried, I thought about one that I started but didn’t stay with for a long time. A few years ago, weight loss diets that centered on liquid were all the rage. In fact, you could hardly watch television or pick up a magazine without seeing an advertisement for some flavored milkshake supplement or protein shake. I thought I would look at available information on these products, at least briefly, as a way to get us thinking about them in comparison to other weight … Continue reading

Stop Thinking and Just Do it!

Whoever said life was easy? When it comes to just living a healthy, balanced life, this factor is not taught in any school, it is learned while we grow older. Maybe some school programs should consider placing this in their life skills courses? While we are taught from a very young age to think before we speak, think before we answer a question, and think before we make a decision; what about if we just stop thinking? Go against everything we have been taught and enjoy living our life. For example, who said that we have to have an all … Continue reading

No Schemes! No Magic Beams! No False Dreams!

Have you noticed how many lose weight fast-get in shape fast-miracle pill-guaranteed-to-work programs there are on the market today? Frankly, it’s frightening. During one commercial break on cable television last evening, I counted no less than four advertisements that ran nearly 30 to 45 seconds a piece. Every single one promised the same thing. The pounds will melt, fall, vanish or my personal favorite “disappear” as long as you use their product/diet/miracle pill/equipment. The problem with all these get thin fast promotions is that 99% of the time they aren’t going to work. Read the small print on just about … Continue reading
