As I mentioned in my previous blog, Whats Happening at the Mall? the kids and I went to the mall Saturday. We had a lot of fun finding deals and a bunch of goodies we each wanted. I asked my eight year old daughter what she learned from this shopping trip and she said, “Always use coupons and you will get more.” I think I have a coupon queen in the making!
My daughter had the most fun at Limited Too. She received $5 off her purchase because she brought in her report card and showed it to the associate. She found an elephant Webkins she had been searching for, so you can guess what she used her $5 discount on. It wasn’t a great deal, it was still $12.31 after the savings, but she earned it. They were having a great clearance sale with 50% off already reduced items. They had lots of baby doll tops, tanks, and t-shirts to choose from. I found her a baby doll top that was originally $29.99, reduced to $22.99, plus the 50% off, plus a 25% off coupon that was mailed to us. So I bought the top for $9.22. It’s definitely worth getting on their mailing list. They are always mailing us catalogs and coupons. Normally this store is too pricy for our budget, but when you can stack discounts, the savings end up being decent. Besides, there is nothing like seeing my daughter’s face light up when they make her feel special while she shops. They do a fabulous job of catering to the girls.
My treat of the day was visiting Yankee Candle. Check out my latest blog on “Time to Stock up on Candles”. I found six items that I have been wanting for $1 a piece. It was hard to have self control in this store when so many items were on sale at clearance prices. I found three tea light holders and three votives that the kids picked out for me. I was going to purchase them off the website, but I saved the shipping costs by buying them in the store. The receipt has a message that says if you register at www.yankeecandle.com/coupons , you will receive a coupon for $10 off a $25 purchase. You can use store code 204. I am all about getting discounted or free candles.
Although I did not break down and buy anything at the Disney Store, they were having a big sale. They are closing 98 of their stores within the year. Even though ours is staying open, they still had big 40% – 50% off sales on almost everything in the store. They had the cute little Disney character t-shirts on sale for $4.99. When my daughter was younger, we loved to buy these shirts. They are durable and she loved the characters.
The last store we visited was Toys R Us. Normally, I would never take two kids in this huge toy store by myself. They did so well in the mall, that I took them as a special treat. TRU has a coupon for a free Thomas the Train up to a $12.99 value. It can only be used on the wooden trains and you must pay the sales tax. The coupon expires July 12, 2008. My daughter and I each bought a train. We paid .91 and .77 for trains that were $10.99 and $12.99. My son was thrilled. It made his day. Some of my friends have reported stores being sold out already. If you have to travel to a Toys R Us, you might want to call first. It was the perfect ending to a great day of shopping.
We found lots of clearance sales and discounts on our favorite stores. If you have a favorite store, visit them online and register at their website. Get on their mailing lists. Also consider getting the store credit card. Many stores offer special discounts for their credit card holders. Back to school shopping and the holiday shopping season are coming up. They will be sending out lots of promotions. So get ready for it now.
