Which States are the Speediest?

Speed Limit SignHow fast do you drive? Do you think the other drivers in your state are “speeders”? CarInsuranceQuotes.com compiled a list of the states where drivers receive the most traffic tickets for speeding. Do you live in one of those states?

It happens every day. Some idiot flies down the road and nearly causes an accident. People who are in a hurry tend to forget that there are some very bad things that can happen when drivers choose to drive faster than the speed limit. The later you are for work, the more tempted you might be to ignore the safety rules.

Just one ticket is enough to have cause your auto insurance company to decide to increase the cost of your premium. A ticket for speeding shows your insurer that you are a bigger risk than they may have realized when they approved your application for a car insurance policy. They might feel that charging you a higher premium rate is a good way to counter the extra claims you might file with them.

How speedy is your state? CarInsuranceQuotes.com is a website that provides quotes on car insurance. They have compiled a list of the states where drivers are most likely to get ticketed. Theoretically, this could be because those states have a higher percentage of drivers who speed. Or, it could be due to the practices of the police in those states. Perhaps it is a combination of the two factors.

CarInsuranceQuotes.com gathered data from several different sources in order to make the list. Much of it came from AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety, Governors Highway Safety Association, NationalHighway Traffic Safety Administration, and the U.S. Census Bureau. Data also came from state and national sources.

Florida is at the top of the list. In 2011, there were 17,995 non-criminal traffic citations for speeding above the posted limited handed out by Florida police to drivers. In addition to those, Florida police issued drivers 6,132 citations for driving too fast for conditions. This data comes from the Florida Highway Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles.

There were two states that took “second place” on the list from CarInsuranceQuotes.com. Those states were Georgia and Nevada. Each was tied for the second most likely state for a driver to be issued a speeding ticket. The list continued with Texas, Alabama, Missouri, New York, North Carolina, Washington, D.C, and New Jersey.
