Who I Am—An Introduction

Who is Lisa Mabey? On the surface, I’m a new blogger for the LDS Families and Photography blogs. I’m a soon-to-be LDS mom and wife. I’m a young women first counselor.

But a little deeper, I’m an intently religious woman who values her convictions and testimony above anything else in life. I grew up in a tiny town in Idaho where I was surrounded by people who shared my faith and taught me through their examples. I grew up in a home that many people have envied for the love and truths taught there. I moved to Utah to attend college and then work, and while there I also surrounded myself with amazing people.

Despite all these amazing influences, I went through my fair share of heartache and trials. No one is immune. I also was given the amazing opportunity to attend the University of Leicester in England for a semester, where I was faced with things I’d never encountered before. I loved learning about how different things were in England than from my previous life experiences. I met some of the most influential people in my life there, and almost none of them were LDS. I learned about other religions, I learned about my own religion, and I learned about my convictions, as they were tested and questioned.

As you may have read in my first blog entry, I married my sweetheart, Chad, in the Salt Lake temple at a later age than I had anticipated. But that extra time alone taught me to stick to my convictions, to know myself deeply, and to trust in my Heavenly Father when nothing around me seemed to make sense.

Why should you read what I have to say about LDS families? Because who I am has been shaped, molded, and defined by the teachings and lessons of the LDS faith. I welcome conversations and questions from people of all faiths. And while I can’t promise to know everything about my religion, I can promise that my thoughts and beliefs are deeply held and that I love learning from the people around me. I hope you’ll be a part of that with me.
