Trunk or Treat Time

This coming Saturday, my family and I will be participating in our church’s annual Trunk or Treat event. This is our second year doing it. Along with the trunks to treat from, there will be free food, music, games, free photos and more. I can’t wait.

In case you aren’t familiar with what a Trunk or Treat is, let me explain. Trunkers bring a car or other vehicle and decorate it. The Treaters go around to the various trunks and collect their candy and treats. It is safer than going to unfamiliar houses, and it is a lot of fun.

Last year, my family won the contest for the best trunk, so we have a lot to live up to. I can’t tell you what we are planning for this year, but I can tell you the trunk that won, as well as some of the other trunks that got honorable mentions.

For our trunk, we went with a Narnia theme. We turned the minivan into a wardrobe. The kids had to step through the car (the inside was curtained off and hung with coats) to emerge into a Narnia scene, complete with a lamppost, some trees, fake snow a white witch and a lion.

Another interesting trunk was an I Spy one. It came complete with an I Spy game that kids had to solve in order to get their treat.

One red car was decorated as Lightening McQueen from Disney Pixar’s Cars movie, complete with eyes.

Other easy ideas include a zoo (fill the car with stuffed animals), a luau, a Mario Brothers theme, a camping out theme (just a few camp chairs and a fake fire), a sports theme, a Flintstone’s theme, a Batman or super hero theme, or just a fall theme with lots of hay and pumpkins.
