Set Parenting Goals for Each of Your Children

I don’t really get into New Year’s Resolutions but I do like to set goals for the New Year. I typically spend some time evaluating all the important areas of my life and set one or two goals. Obviously one of the most important areas of my life is my children. I love being a mom. It has its challenges, especially with the ages they are right now but I wouldn’t trade this for anything. Yet I know that things can always be better so as I look to 2011 I have some things in mind. This year one of … Continue reading

Creating a New Year’s Eve Scrapbook

New Year’s Eve is right around the corner. Have you been thinking about capturing memories of your New Year’s Eve celebrations? In our family we have the same tradition year after year. My husband splurges on a delicious home-cooked meal of lobster, steak and shrimp. We drink glass after glass of Welch’s Sparkling Grape Juice and play games together as a family. We typically end the evening watching several episodes of “The Three Stooges.” While I always take pictures during Christmas celebrations, I hadn’t really considered doing that for New Year’s Eve. So this year I am going to start … Continue reading

Estate Planning and the Step Family

For too many of us, estate planning is the thing we’re always going to get to but often don’t. It’s like flossing, but with exponentially greater potential for harm. I understand why we procrastinate, believe me I do, but a failure to act in this department can have a devastating effect on your family. Our financial planner had been after us to create an estate plan for a year; as we began preparations for an extended trip through Mexico, it seemed irresponsible not to have something in place. We contacted an attorney who came highly recommended, and blithely scheduled an … Continue reading

Your Family Money History

This is an introduction and a question all in one. I’m new to blogging in the Money section. What brought me here? When I was growing up, money was tight. My mother was the primary provider for our family, and my dad was a stay at home dad who worked sometimes and not at others. Our family was often stressed about money. From an early age, I became interested in saving money and managing money. This was a way to take control of a hard situation, and it still is. As I grew older, I became a graduate student in … Continue reading

Goals For Marriage

Yesterday we looked at the idea of goal setting and marriage. but what about setting goals for your marriage. Make your goal a loving, nurturing environment for family where they can grow and develop. Here are some practical ways you can do this. New Duty to God Program

Every once in a while, the church changes and updates their programs to better serve the needs of the members. I personally love how these programs, while the same in purpose and desired outcome, adapt to use new technologies and relevant goals to strengthen and uplift our youth. I also love how the changes to this program involve the family. According to the Questions and Answers section on LDS.org, the program “provides opportunities for parents and leaders to strengthen relationships with young men” and can “easily be integrated into family home evening and quorum meetings and activities.” Families are a … Continue reading

New Year, New Resolutions for Marriage

As we start this New Year we might wonder what the New Year will bring in our lives. We might wonder what changes there will be in our marriage. If we are wise we will have thought about this and made some resolutions or goals regarding our marriage. Maybe this year we will work on fulfilling our dreams whatever they may be. Maybe this year will see and addition to the family. That doesn’t always mean a new baby. It could be an elderly parent coming to stay or a adopting a pet. Believe me, our little dog is very … Continue reading
