Happily Ever After

You fall in love, get married and live happily ever after. Right? Wrong! Statistics show that many marriages in Australia end in divorce and those who divorce once often end up remarried and divorced again. No doubt it is similar in other countries. So what has gone wrong? Could it be the attitude with which people approach marriage? It’s almost like some people approach it with the idea that it can easily be undone if it doesn’t work out. And we have the examples of so many celebrities who marry and divorce in a short space of time and move … Continue reading

It’s Never Enough: Cherishing Each Married Moment

What a week. My husband called his grandmother this past Sunday night to say hello. She informed him Helen’s husband, Vernon, had passed away and the funeral would be Tuesday. Helen is a very dear woman who’s one of Grandma’s cousins. She’s one of those always smiling, upbeat sorts who showers warmth and kindness on everyone she comes into contact with. Since she’s also older, closer to Wayne’s grandma’s age (mid-80s), I was under the impression she and Vernon had been married decades. Well, technically they had, 20 years, but I thought it was closer to 60+ like Grandma and … Continue reading

The Marriage Blog Week in Review for January 14-20

In case anything kept you from reading the Marriage Blog everyday last week, here’s a recap of what Lyn and I wrote on: Monday, January 14 When You Do Not Care for Your Friend’s Partner Lyn discussed something I think we’ve all experienced at one time or another, either being the person to not like a friend’s choice of mate or being the one not liked. She gave some suggestions for how to handle such a situation when it arises. Do Fairy Tales Exist in the Congo? I wondered what kind of fairy tales (if any) the women of the … Continue reading

The Marriage Blog Week in Review for October 1-7

This past week Heather joined Karri and I in the Marriage Blog again, making for a variety of topics. If you missed any, why not use this as an opportunity to catch up with what we wrote on: Monday, October 1 Karri kicked off the week and the start of the new month by getting excited about an event that takes place on the last day of the month: Halloween! She offered some great ideas for Halloween costumes for couples. Heather wondered should a prenup be compulsory these days? I offered some ideas for how to learn more about your … Continue reading

Why am I Writing this Disney Blog?

I’m a former employee of Walt Disney World in Florida. After going through the casting process, I found a great job at Walt Disney World’s Central Reservations Office. It wasn’t nearly as glamorous as playing Cinderella in the Magic Kingdom, in fact, it was considered a “backstage” position, but it was a fantastic job nonetheless! Part of my training involved touring all of the resorts/hotels on the Disney property from basic rooms to concierge level suites, exploring the vast and amazing underground and “backstage” areas, and doing considerable “off duty” research on the Walt Disney World Parks. The off duty … Continue reading

Dental Horror Story: The Happily Ever After Part

Well, in the last week or so I’ve shared with you the trials and tribulations of my summer. I’ve told you about the bad and the ugly where the wisdom teeth were concerned, now let’s flashback to just three weeks ago. I’d done all of my daughter’s back-to-school shopping over the weekend. They’d scheduled my surgery so that by the time we got to meet the teacher on Friday, I would be able to talk some and on her first day of school some of the swelling should be down. I got up early that morning, it was a Tuesday, … Continue reading

Meet Marriage Blogger Courtney Mroch

Greetings! Some of you may know my work from the blogs I write over in the Pets section or from guest blogs I’ve written in Marriage or a few other sections. I’ll still be contributing to Pets as well, but today I officially join Heather Long and Karri Weathers as a Marriage Blogger. Wooohooo! I’m very excited about keeping company with you all. You, however, might be wondering, “Who is this Courtney Mroch and why is she qualified to write about love, marriage, and relationships?” Well, let’s see if I can answer that… 21 Years and Counting I am married. … Continue reading

Happily N’ever After (2007)

I have looked forward to seeing this movie ever since it was first advertised. I love spoofs on fairy tales. I must say, though, that while this one was moderately cute, it wasn’t as cute as I’d hoped. Fairy Tale Land is the place where all the fairy tale characters live. It is run by The Wizard (George Carlin) whose job it is to keep the balance between good and evil. He is assisted by Munk (Wallace Shawn) and Mambo (Andy Dick) When it’s time for the Wizard to take a golf vacation in Scotland, he leaves the two in … Continue reading

Ask a Marriage Blogger – Can We Sing Our Vows?

Good morning, I have an odd question for you. I enjoy reading your blogs and I’ve been reading a great deal about wedding planning in your blog, but there is one question you hadn’t actually addressed. If you have the time, would you mind writing about whether or not a couple can sing their vows to each other rather than repeat the statements made by the minister? My fiancé and I have always had a passion for musicals. I guess this is cheesy, but the idea of having a musical wedding is something that makes us both laugh. In our … Continue reading

Ask a Baby Blogger: Just How Do You Do It?

The question reads: I don’t know how you survive as a homeschooling mom with 5 children under the age of 7! How do you ever get out? How do you give everyone enough attention? How can you keep your house clean or attend to your husband? I only have one and am completely overwhelmed. Seriously—just how do you do it? I chuckle as I read this question because I promise you that if you saw my house with books stacked high in places that are NOT the bookshelf—that would answer at least part of your question. I almost didn’t respond … Continue reading
