Celebs at the Democratic Convention

Yesterday was the official kickoff of the Democratic National Convention in Colorado and the celebs turned out to support the party. Singer Sheryl Crow dedicated the song “Strong Enough” to presidential hopeful Barack Obama at last night’s concert at Red Rocks Amphitheater. She changed the lyrics to fit the occasion, singing “Are you strong enough to my man, or my president?” Crow told the Associated Press before the concert that she felt the Republican Party was responsible for the celebrity tag attached to Obama’s name, but said “I have yet to see him at any celebrity events.” Another musician on … Continue reading

Lance Armstrong’s Run for the White House?

I willing admit that I find Lance Armstrong attractive. How can I deny it now when I’ve already publicly professed my feelings for him in numerous blogs. However, I have never been keen on the way he handles his love life. From splitting with his wife (and the mother of their three young children) to walking out on his former fiancée Sheryl Crow, then dumping his last celebrity designer girlfriend, hooking up with Hollywood nymph Ashley Olsen and now actress Kate Hudson (who is young enough to be his daughter—okay, I’m exaggerating). All that drama aside the guy is an … Continue reading

George Clooney the Peacemaker

In 1997 George Clooney starred in a movie with Nicole Kidman called “The Peacemaker.” In the film Kidman plays a nuclear expert and Clooney a Special Forces Intelligence Officer. Both are called to investigate a train crash in Russia that includes a nuclear payload, only neither Clooney nor Kidman’s characters believe the crash was an “accident.” It was a sleeper of a movie, but its title is quite fitting to describe the role Clooney is now playing in the real life drama that involves two rival Hollywood actors unions. The handsome star is pleading with the warring factions to put … Continue reading

This Week in History – June 22, 1960

Ah, it was the new decade, 1960. Let’s see what was happening: In national news, General MacArthur may have seemed like an unlikely candidate to be honored by Japan, but he was in June 1960. For his great contributions to the rebuilding of post-World War II Japan, MacArthur was awarded the Order of the Rising Sun with Paulownia flowers, Grand Cordon. Things in Cuba are heating up as Congress gets word that Russia is seeking to set up bases in Cuba. Pepsi introduces a new single size drink that is 8 whole ounces. This is well before 7/11 invented the … Continue reading

Free-Thinking Female Celebs Speak Their Minds

If you’ve always dreamed of running into award-winning actress Susan Sarandon on the streets of L.A. or New York you better hope that Republican John McCain doesn’t win November’s presidential election. If not your chances of seeing Sarandon and her longtime partner Tim Robbins anywhere in the United States is slim to none. At least according to Sarandon. The outspoken movie star recently vowed to leave the United States with her family if either Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton doesn’t replace George W. Bush in the White House. Though, if she had her choice Sarandon says she would prefer to … Continue reading

“Indy” No. 5 in the Works?

The long awaited fourth film in the Indiana Jones series just hit the big screen 48 hours ago and already there’s buzz that No. 5 is in the works. Chalk it up to George Lucas’ loose lips. The world-famous moviemaker spilled the beans at France’s Cannes Film Festival earlier this week. Lucas said he is hatching a plan to bring action hero Indiana Jones back for a fifth installment of the movie series regardless of how the current flick, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, does at the box office. Lucas, who joined forces with director Steven … Continue reading

Celebrities and the Kentucky Derby

That’s right – it is the first Saturday in May and that means the Kentucky Derby. This Grade I stakes race for three-year-old thoroughbreds is known as “the most exciting two minutes in sports.” Of course, while the race only lasts two minutes, the celebration known as the Kentucky Derby Festival lasts two weeks long. And, of course, where there is celebration, there is celebrities. They turned up in droves yesterday as the rest of the country waits today to see who wins the race. Hugh Hefner was among the celebrities at the Barnstable Brown Gala, which was held last … Continue reading

Well, That was Quick! TV Shows Cancelled After One Episode

Well, it looks like I will never see Ben Stein dance on television. That was part of the appeal for me of the new reality show “Secret Talents of the Stars.” As it turns out, either the stars didn’t have any secrets or weren’t talented because America was not tuning in. After the first show drew just 4.6 million (I would have thought there would have been at least that many Star Trek fans tuned in just to hear George “Mr. Sulu” Takei sing “On the Road Again”), it was cancelled. However, “Secret Talents of the Stars” is in good … Continue reading

Halle Berry Gives Birth

Halle Berry recently told a magazine reporter that she wanted to stay pregnant forever, but her baby had other ideas. The Oscar winner gave birth Sunday morning to a baby girl, according to her rep. Berry and her model boyfriend Gabriel Aubry are now the proud first time parents of a 7 lbs, 4 oz baby girl, who arrived at 10:17 am at Cedars-Sinai in Los Angeles. The 41-year-old new mom is reportedly “doing well” and can’t wait to take her bundle of joy home. There are varying reports on Berry’s delivery timeline, but several Internet sites posted pics of … Continue reading

Rocker Forces Daughter to Stay in School

FINALLY, a celebrity parent I can relate to… Rocker Lenny Kravitz has put his foot down. He says he is adamant his teenage daughter Zoe will remain in school no matter what. And right now that “what” refers to the lure of a successful movie career. The 19-year-old has all ready appeared alongside Catherine Zeta-Jones in “No Reservations” and Jodie Foster in crime drama “The Brave One,” and says she would love to continue shooting more films. However, her dad has other ideas. Kravitz is insisting that Zoe (whose mother is actress and former “Cosby Show” star Lisa Bonet) graduate … Continue reading
