Spooktacular Halloween Travel Destinations

How’s this for a freaky Halloween-related trip… this weekend my family traveled to a pumpkin patch and picked gourds, Indian corn and pumpkins in 87 degree heat… and we didn’t have to travel to Hawaii to do so. We went pumpkin picking in Wisconsin where the average temperature this time of year is 62. Wearing shorts in a pumpkin patch in the Upper Midwest during the month of October on day with temperatures 25 degrees above normal—-now that’s freaky. Improving Your Autumn Photographs

Weeks ago my daughter’s playgroup set aside the first Tuesday in October to visit a local pumpkin patch. We figured we’d get an early start and go before the school groups descended and the patch was thoroughly picked over. Little did we know that Tuesday would be one of the hottest October days on record. Our little pumpkins were picking pumpkins in 85-degree heat. (In Wisconsin that’s virtually unheard of.) Family Travel: Taking Your Children To A Strawberry Farm

I was going to title this blog “A Trip To The Strawberry Farm—A Parent’s Survival Guide,” but I didn’t want to send the wrong message. Yesterday my 3-year-old daughter and I finished off the last two pieces of a very tasty strawberry rhubarb pie. It was a pie we made together with the fresh strawberries we picked earlier this summer at our local berry farm. (I froze a few pounds and have been adding them to recipes throughout the summer.)
