What I Don’t Miss About Co-workers

There are some really fabulous things that come from working in a group and I have made some great and lasting friendships with people who were originally coworkers. But, when I am working in my home business, there are definitely some things that I do not miss that come with coworkers…

I do not miss having to pick up the slack and do someone else’s work. I know that seems like an incredibly obvious coworker complaint, but I am one of those people who gets fairly crabby when I have to do stuff that is really in someone else’s job description. So, when I am working away alone in my home office, I don’t have to be concerned that someone will dump their work load on me.

I also don’t mind NOT having to adjust to coworkers’ moods—whether it is anger or menopause or whatever, having co-workers means that you just never know what sort of emotional baggage and realities you will walk into each day. When I’m working from my home business, I may have to contend with little windows of other people’s moodiness, but on the whole, I only have to cope with my own.

Strangely enough, I don’t miss the noise either. I say “strangely” because I’ve always thought of myself as a “high chaos threshold” sort of person. I can manage to get work done with phone ringing, doors banging, and all sorts of various people roaming in and out. There have been times in my life, when I thought this was how I worked best. But, I’ve discovered that I really do work better with a little peace and quiet and that I love being able to focus without having two people arguing about a deadline three feet from my desk or without a phone call going on inches from where I’m trying to type up something inspirational. I do NOT miss the noise and bustle and grating voices that can come from an office full of coworkers.
