Do you want to save some money this month? Eliminate some of those “I really should” things. Make your money work for you and get practical purpose or pleasure out of every dollar that you spend. By eliminating the “I should” things, you eliminate the waste, allowing you to use that money on the thing that are really important. What are the “I really should” things? Is it Ever Ok to Bribe your Kids?

How do you get your children to do what you want them to? What do you do to encourage them to do certain things and to refrain from doing other things? Many parents have, at least sometimes, resorted to bribing their children. Is that necessarily a bad thing? Is it ever ok to bribe your kids? New findings reveal some interesting answers to these questions. First, it would be helpful to figure out what a bribe is (and what it isn’t). Author Ellen Perry points out that there is a continuum to be aware of. Motivation is one one end, … Continue reading

A Very Toddler Holiday

The holidays are supposed to be a happy time, but parents of toddlers know that even with all of the smiles, there are likely to be a few tears, tantrums, and other trouble spots. That is okay. At times like these, it is important to remember that the things that your toddler is likely to remember the most are the good times and not the bad. I wish that I was able to offer some magic formula for holiday success. You know, the kind of thing where if you do a certain thing, the kids will enjoy every moment of … Continue reading

What Are Your Baby’s Favorites?

They say that every baby is born with a unique and distinct personality. After having 3 babies myself, I can definitely say that is true. One of the fun things about this stage that my baby is in is that we see more of his personality a little bit each day. I love it. Along with a personality comes a baby’s likes and dislikes, and believe it or not, babies even have “favorites” at this stage. Of course, as baby grows, his favorite things will grow and change too. But, sometimes, they will stay the same. What is your baby’s … Continue reading

Forget Not

Since being called as an apostle, I have loved hearing President Uchtdorf speak. Every time he speaks, there is something that resonates with me, and he has quickly become one of my “favorites” to listen to during General Conference. I especially love when he speaks to the women of the church in the General Relief Society Meeting like he did this past Saturday. I sat at home and watched conference on BYUtv not wanting to get dressed and go to the chapel, and I’m so grateful that I did not miss his talk. It seems that he has a way … Continue reading

Relieving Stress – Part 3

This is the last of my articles about relieving stress. Some of these ideas really go together. The first is volunteering. Volunteer to help someone else, someone less fortunate. The community is always looking for people to visit nursing homes and people who have no regular visits from family, drive them to shopping and doctors and other chores, provide meals for those unable to do it themselves, read to the elderly or blind, baby sit or care for children of busy moms so they can have a break, help those with caring for the sick or disabled, help with reading … Continue reading

What is your biggest frugal pet peeve? Is it other people who waste things? Is it the price of food? I’d love to hear from you for a future blog post. Meanwhile, in the words of Ricky Ricardo, I have some “splainin” to do. I am so sorry to have missed posting on Friday or anytime over the weekend. Frugal Living Month in Review: June 2008

What a happy month is June, filled with the renewal of spring and the promise of summer. In the last month, we have shared so many ideas for frugal living and saving money. This past month has seen some pretty big increases in food, gas and other items (look for an upcoming post about strawberries increasing more than 100 percent). Now more than ever, it is important to save money where we can. This is why I decided to do a month in review. June 2nd Frugal Living Review: May 26th Through June 1st Garage sale shopping has got to … Continue reading

Frugal Living Review: June 2nd Through June 8th

Did you have a good week? I am so grateful to be back from a very bad respiratory infection that drained out my energy. My wonderful husband got me to the doctor just in time to prevent a hospital stay, which wouldn’t have been very frugal at all. But now I can concentrate some more on learning new ways to save money, such as making my own cream soups instead of buying the ones in a can. Check out this past week’s list of articles for that story and more. June 2nd Frugal Living Review: May 26th Through June 1st … Continue reading
