16 Reasons Why

Do you remember when you first fell in love how you couldn’t stop thinking, dreaming, and talking about the other person? Do you still feel the same way?

Have you ever stopped to analyze why you love your spouse or that certain special person in your life? What is it that drew you to that particular person over another?

Initially it may be their physical appearance that attracts you. But if the relationship is to be more than simple chemistry, there needs to be more than that. I admit initially I was drawn by Mick’s brown eyes. But obviously there was much more than that. After all, even my dog has brown eyes and they’re appealing too, though in a different way.

Recently our local community radio played an old song by Connie Stevens. (For those of you not as old as me, Connie Stevens appeared in TV shows like 77 Sunset Strip.) The song was called 16 reasons.

In the song she gives 16 reasons why she loves that person. At this point I can’t remember any of the 16 reasons in the song, but it did make me wonder what would happen if each of us compiled a list of 16 reasons why we love our husband, wife, or special someone.

It also reminded me of an old Al Martino song ‘I love you because.’ (Yes, I know I’m showing my age here!) The song lists all the reasons why he loves her. ‘I love you because you understand, dear, every single thing I try to do,’ is one of the lines. If you want to see some of the reasons I love Mick, you’ll find them here.

The thought in the old Al Martino song that summed it up was ‘I love you most of all because you’re you.’ For me that sums it up. It’s a package deal. I love my husband for who he is.

Sometimes it helps, as Courtney discovered to remember the reasons why we fell in live with the other person. So why not think about and write out your 16 reasons why you love your special person? Once you have your list, don’t just leave it there but make an effort over the next 16 days to compliment them or thank them and let them know just how much we appreciate them for each of those reasons.
