Primary Time: July 2008 Sharing Time Theme

This month the sharing time theme is “Because I know we are all children of God, I will share the gospel with others.” The scripture is Doctrine and Covenants 18:15 and it reads, “And if it so be that ye should . . .bring but one soul unto me, how great shall be your joy.” The song for the month is “Called to Serve Him” (Hymns 249).

The theme is divided into four basic principles. The first principle teaches that daily scripture study and personal prayer can help prepare you to be a missionary. The second principle stresses the importance of being obedient as you prepare to be a missionary. The third principle teaches the importance of living gospel standards, and reviews the standards. The final principle teaches that sharing the gospel blesses the life of others.

The Friend has some great ideas for teaching this at home. You may want to make this craft and talk to your children about how to create a gospel sharing home. You can also have your children complete the coloring page. There are several great stories about sharing the gospel in this month’s issue.

As a family you may want to do a family home evening lesson on sharing the gospel. You can make a goal as a family to invite someone to your home to hear the missionaries or for a family home evening activity. Additionally you can pray as a family that you will know whom to invite or that you will have lots of opportunities to invited people.

This is a great theme because it teaches about the importance of always doing missionary work. My daughter is a great example of someone who is willing to share her testimony with others and invited them to church. Her example makes it much easier for me to do the same.
