Celebrities Turned Foodies

Usually it’s the other way around. Foodies or chefs are catapulted into stardom when enough of their to die for dishes become the talk of the town. (Think celebrity chefs Rachael Ray, Bobby Flay, and Paula Deen.)

Enter Justin Timberlake. The singer turned fashion designer has just added a new line to his resume–restaurant owner. Timberlake (along with a posse of his celeb pals) brought some heat to the Big Apple last night by opening his new restaurant, Southern Hospitality.

As its name suggests, the new eatery features southern comfort food with an emphasis on barbecue. Timberlake says he wanted to share the traditional Memphis-style cuisine he grew up with city-folk in New York. The restaurant is located on the city’s Upper East Side and is decorated with antiques from Memphis flea markets.

Diners can choose from traditional southern spare ribs, homemade buttermilk biscuits and crab and corn fritters. Interestingly, many of the dishes served in the restaurant are from Timberlake’s original family recipes – including desserts his grandmother used to make for him.

As for his favorite dishes on the menu, Timberlake told reporters he likes “fried green tomatoes and the pulled pork.”

She’s not known for her culinary skills… or for her eating skills (okay, maybe she’s not a foodie)… and especially not for her personal skills. But, apparently that didn’t stop Dunkin Donuts from hiring model Naomi Campbell for their new ad campaign.

In a new commercial directed by “Scrubs” star Zach Braff, the supermodel pokes fun at her reputation for having a bad temper. You’ll recall Campbell was mandated to complete five days of sanitation cleanup as her community service for hitting her former housekeeper with a cell phone.

In the spot, Campbell loses her temper and shatters a glass window in a suburban house with a shoe she’s broken the heel off of doing yard work. The commercial is supposed to spotlight the company’s iced drinks for summer.
