Home Business Idea: Teacher

If you have a skill or you are a teacher there are ways you can teach out of your home or start your own business. Some of it may require thinking outside the box a little but that is all the better to ensure you have a unique idea.

Areas of Teaching Conducive to Home Business:

Music: If you can play an instrument proficiently then you may want to consider sharing your talent.

Art: From teaching preschool art to crafts to adults, your talents can prove profitable.

Crochet/Knitting: A wonderful skill to share with moms and daughters.

Cooking: If you have skills for a cooking niche like gluten free, diabetic cooking, vegan, or even French pastries, consider hosting classes.

Cake Decorating: Popular classes with adults and children.

Car Repair: If you are a mechanic or know the basics then your skills can prove valuable to others to learn.

Home Repair: Everyone wants to learn how to handle some home repair or even appliance repair so share your knowledge and make a profit! You may even add this on as a sideline to a handy man job. No, you will not lose customers by teaching them. Some will want to hire someone and some will always try to learn…it’s just how it is.

Computer Skills: If you know software, hardware, internet surfing, or social media, you can teach others to be as savvy as you.

Foreign Language: A very popular class for homeschoolers so if you have the skill you can turn it into a business.

Where to Market Your Home Business:

Schools: Parents may be interested in signing kids up for extra-curricular activities. If you offer home or car repair, perhaps you can offer parent/child classes as well or teach just adults.

Homeschool Co-ops: Since homeschooling families can schedule classes during the day you may find plenty of daytime opportunity through this route. It is another opportunity to offer parent/child classes as well. I know a few teachers who offer co-op classes for homeschoolers and are successful.

Library: Ask your local library if you can put up flyers and possibly hold your class at the library.

YMCA: Ask your local YMCA about advertising at there and renting a room to teach a class. It is far more profitable to rent a room and hold a class then to be hired by the Y and teach. Trust me. I have the inside track on that one.
