Two Coupons From Quiznos

Did you know that Quiznos delivers? I think this is a recent development, because I just heard about it today. What could be better than a tasty sandwich, salad, or soup from Quiznos, delivered right to your door? How about a coupon to save you some money on the food you have delivered? Quiznos also has another coupon that can be used to save a little cash when you visit a Quiznos store. Quiznos is best known for the toasted subs sandwiches they sell. The subs come in three different sizes, so you can select the size that matches your … Continue reading

Get Your Preschooler Involved in Meal Planning

Like most parents, sometimes I despair about my preschooler’s eating habits. It all began well, with yams and blueberries and the occasional bit of meat. Yet like most preschoolers, my daughter has now developed a distinct dislike of crusts, tomatoes, onions and any leafy greens that are not directly from the garden. I do understand. I remember being forced to eat tomatoes and onions and how they tasted atrocious to my sensitive tastebuds. Now, of course, the more tomatoes, onions and garlic the better – hurrah! I don’t force my daughter to eat vegetables and fruit, but I do try … Continue reading

McDonald’s: Foods Less Than 300 Calories

We all know that fast foods are not a good thing to have especially if you are trying to lose weight. When I totally cut out fast foods a few years back the weight dropped off me a whole lot faster. Since that time I have eased up on myself a bit and allowed some fast foods back into my life. However, I have a rule for myself that only certain things are allowed. The rule for me is that the item has to be less than 300 calories or I cannot have it. Here is a list of allowable, … Continue reading

Recession Proof Your Marriage: Dinner

The other day I proposed that marriages could actually benefit from recession. To start us off on the right-thinking foot, I proposed giving thanks for what we have right now. (Mainly, each other and any time we spend together, because that’s precious in and of itself.) Sometimes it just takes looking at all the good we enjoy to realize everything else isn’t as bad as it seems. However, I also hinted that I’d explore other ways a recession could benefit marriage. After giving the matter some thought, I’ve come up with some date night ideas. Ones that use the recession … Continue reading

Tweaking the Diet

I received this email and since there is so much in it that we can all learn from, I wanted to share it and my response: “My husband said he read something that said it was dangerous to consume less than 1200 calories per day without a doctor’s supervision. I’ve been averaging around 950 calories per day for my meals. I have lost 24 lbs, averaging 0.6 lbs/day, 4 lbs/wk. I have been surprised by my progress, but I feel great, lots of energy, etc. I have a basal metabolic rate of approx. 15 calories per day per pound of … Continue reading

Kate Moss’ Vibrancy Diet

Apparently, Kate Moss has parted ways with her rock and roller boyfriend and has also decided to part ways with the rock and roll lifestyle (eating whatever, whenever and sleeping every other week or so). She says she’s on a diet now. She’s calling it the Vibrancy Diet. For all my research, I couldn’t find any such diet so my guess is she chose to call it the Vibrancy Diet instead of the I-ditched-my-loser-lover-and-need-to-get-back-in-shape-or-nobody-else-will-have-me-because-I-look-like-crap Diet. So, instead of last night’s left over pizza and champagne cocktails for breakfast, she is opting for yogurt, fruit and toast. (Not bad choices for … Continue reading

High Value Internet Coupons

Our commissary quit taking Internet coupons awhile back due to fraud. That’s unfortunate that a few people ruin it for the vast majority of honest coupon clippers. Luckily my local Target still takes them, so when I’m headed up that way (it’s about 45 minutes), I spend a few minutes on the computer looking for the better coupon deals. For the few pennies it costs me in ink and paper (free at my library!), I save a bundle. Some of these are instant print, others are mailed to you. If your local store still accepts Internet coupons, here are some … Continue reading

Grocery Deals of the Week – Safeway

There’s a good discussion going on over the use of coupons and whether they’re worth it. It’s easy to say “They are,” but without any evidence, it’s not a very worthwhile statement. I did the grocery shopping today, and thought I’d share some of the deals I found in the stores. Sometimes the deals are regionally-specific, but hopefully most will apply to you, too. My first stop was Safeway. I knew from their ad that they had grapes on sale at a buck a pound. That’s a very good price here in the Northwest. I also up some boneless skinless … Continue reading

Fight A Cold With The Right Foods

Stuffy nose? Check. Scratchy throat? Check. Tickling throat and cough? Check and check. Sounds like the formula for a few days of misery while your body fights off a cold. Running to the kitchen can help ease your symptoms and help you feel better faster. Chicken soup. An oldie but a goodie! The salt in the broth is soothing to sore throats. The warmth can help break up mucous. The veggies are full of vitamins and minerals your body needs. What’s not to like? Whole grains. The zinc in whole grains helps your immune system keep running at peak performance. … Continue reading

New Menu Options at 35,000 Feet

Smoked turkey salad folded in a southwestern remoulade with peppers, grilled onions and chipotle chiles. Served with tortilla chips and salsa cruda. If you’re thinking it’s a dish being whipped up on your favorite “Food Network” show, think again. Believe it or not, it is actually an in-flight meal choice on Milwaukee based “Midwest Express Airlines.” The airline recently began a new program called, “Best Care Cuisine” and I thought it fitting to profile it as a follow-up to my blog: “No Such Thing as a Free Ride or Free Pretzels,” which dealt with the way many major airlines were … Continue reading
