Frugal Living Month in Review: June 2008

What a happy month is June, filled with the renewal of spring and the promise of summer. In the last month, we have shared so many ideas for frugal living and saving money. This past month has seen some pretty big increases in food, gas and other items (look for an upcoming post about strawberries increasing more than 100 percent). Now more than ever, it is important to save money where we can. This is why I decided to do a month in review. Frugal School Supplies in July 2

I know you think I am crazy, but I have to say that my school shopping is almost done for this coming September. No, I am far from supermom, and I do have a life (or at least I think I do). Instead, I’ve been employing some strategies to help get the best deals possible on school supplies, and as a result, I am usually prepared long before that first bell rings after summer. Previously, I talked about what I do to get some frugal school clothes. Now, let’s talk about school supplies. These are all of the pencils, notebooks, … Continue reading

Frugal School Supplies in July

My oldest son has only been out of school for less than 10 days on summer vacation, but I am already getting ready with school supplies and clothing for September. Why do I do this? First off, it is to avoid the rush, and secondly it is to avoid spending too much money. Starting to gather the school supplies now gives me extra opportunity to find the best prices. The first thing I did was to go through my son’s closet and dresser for clothing. This was in a way killing too birds with one stone. I could put away … Continue reading

Frugal Living Week in Review for July 15th to July 22nd, 2007

Back to school has hit at our house already, as my three youngest have ventured back to school last week in our year-round school district. I still have two at home with me, but they are the oldest and are easily entertaining themselves. I get a lot more done with children gone, though I have been missing them terribly. I kept myself busy with articles and research. So what articles showed up in the Frugal Living Blog last week? Is there any better feeling than cleaning out a coat pocket or fishing through a jean pocket, and pulling out a … Continue reading

School Supply Savings

It’s almost that time of year again, our children will be wandering the halls of school, sporting new clothing and the prestigious new backpack. But school supplies can get expensive if you don’t plan ahead. I was just at Wal-mart the other day, and they already have their school supply section in full swing. Of course, part of that is because in our area, we have year round school and it starts July 20! With five children in school this year, it’s important that we cut costs where we can. One of the first things we did, was decide to … Continue reading

Finding Learning Resources

I am acquiring a shelf of learning resources. I’m sure that many of them are high-priced and fancy. These are high quality learning resources. Want to know where I’ve been getting them? Garage sales and friends. A friend was having a “get the stuff out of my house” giveaway, and she is a homeschooler. I took an armload. We have also been frequenting garage sales on the weekend and searching for manipulatives for math and activities that will build small motor skills, since this is an area that my daughter needs to work on. Yesterday we hit the jackpot. We … Continue reading
