Become a Prepper

I saw an interesting news story this morning about people who have been labeled as “preppers”. These people are simply doing what we have been told by our church leaders for years: Be Prepared. Although, some of these “preppers” are taking it to the extreme, it is still the same concept. Being prepared in case of a disaster, or the end of the world as we know it. We have been told time and time again to be prepared with the following: A 3 Month supply of food Drinking Water Financial Resources Those are just the minimal requirements that church … Continue reading

An FHE for Small Children- Hidden Treasure

Looking for ideas for family home evening for my little children with even smaller attention spans can be challenging. But, this week, we had a fun one. My 3-year old likes pirates, and the lesson was on finding treasure. The original idea can be found here. My 5 year old defined treasure as “something really cool that you find”. I told her that was right! We talked about how a treasure can be anything that is really special. We then talked about our purpose for coming to earth. They needed a little help, but eventually gave the right answers. To … Continue reading

LDS Worldwide Leadership Training Meeting

This past weekend I came down with a horrible cold. It peaked on Sunday, of course, making it where I missed my meetings. I was disappointed because I really do love attending church every Sunday. But, I was grateful that I had gone to the Worldwide Leadership Training Broadcast on Saturday. It boosted my spirit, and gave me the spiritual uplift I needed for the upcoming week. If you missed it, or are not currently in a leadership position requiring you to attend, then I strongly encourage you to go watch or listen to it, here. As always, listening to … Continue reading

Patience In All Things

Perhaps this might be a blog post for our pregnancy blog, but I feel it is appropriate here too. I am very pregnant awaiting our third child. This has been a difficult pregnancy for me. I was extremely sick in the first trimester, more so than with my other two pregnancies. And, I’ve been extremely swollen this time around. In the past, I delivered a few days earlier than my due date, and this time around, I had my heart set on that. Well, here it is, 2 days away from my due date and no baby yet. With one … Continue reading

A Day of Service-2011

So, I have to admit that I was a little negative when I wrote this article. I was watching my husband work so hard on a ward service project, when he already has so much demanding his time in other areas of his life like work, family, and his calling. But, now that the day of service is over, I thought I would write about a great event, that helped lots of people! The goal of the service project was to first, get the neighborhood involved, not just the ward, and second, to get as many donations of food for … Continue reading

Much Ado About Nothing

As I mentioned before in my blog post, Tilling the Earth, our stakes were reorganized this past Sunday. Being very pregnant, I was planning on letting my husband attend the conference while I stayed home and kept my very swollen feet up, but I decided at the last minute to go. After all, it was going to be downtown at the tabernacle and Elder Ballard, one of the apostles was speaking. I never like to pass up an opportunity to hear, in person, an apostle of the Lord speak! So, I decided to go. I learned two things. First, that … Continue reading

Utah Governor has Famous People in His Family Tree

You never know what you will find when you start digging through the branches of someone’s family tree. GeneTree.com has used DNA to discover that the Utah Governor, Gary Herbert, has some very prominent historical figures in his family tree, including Butch Cassidy, and Joseph Smith Jr.. The study of genealogy has become intertwined with the study of a person’s DNA. You can learn quite a bit about who a person is genetically related to by examining a sample of that person’s DNA, and then comparing it to the DNA of other people. GeneTree.com is owned by Sorenson Molecular Genealogy … Continue reading

Pioneer Appreciation

I am not a history buff. In fact, I claim to hate history and want nothing to do with it. Unfortunately, this tends to encompass the history of my own church as well. I am not like many people that I have met that love to learn about church history, but give me a good fiction book to read, and I’m there! Growing up in Texas as a child, I was vaguely reminded of the pioneers and what they did for church history. And, when I say vaguely reminded I mean that I was probably given a lesson about the … Continue reading

What I Believe-Families

In the past, Mormons have been known to have big families. I think the trend now isn’t so much 10-12 kids, but maybe more like 2-7. But regardless of how many kids you have, if you are Mormon, then you understand why families are so important. Everyone loves their families. Well, most people do. We know that they are the people that we feel most comfortable around. They are the ones that we enjoy spending time with, and I think as you get older, you really learn to appreciate your family from your childhood even more. But, once we start … Continue reading

Muslims Worship in LDS Church

As members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, we should be the most tolerant people in the world. We know what it means to be like Christ. He loved everyone, no matter what their background. They were sinners, adulterers, haters, murderers, and He loved them. He loved those and forgave those that crucified Him. So, we have that perfect example. Why don’t we reach out more? Why don’t we take the time as LDS members of the church to get to know those people that are different than us. Serve them? One congregation in Missouri is setting … Continue reading
