It’s that time of year when you start thinking about all the big projects that need to be done around the house. When I first bought my house I woke up one rainy day to a drip in the attic. I went up there and found the roof was leaking. When the rain stopped I did some research online and patched the roof but I needed a new roof.
I know nothing about the roof of my house, I’ve never actually given it much thought but suddenly it was all I could think about. I needed to find someone to put a new roof on my house.
Sometimes lack of knowledge keeps me from doing things, I don’t want to get taken advantage of, so I put it off. I could not put off getting a new roof.
The most important thing you can do when contemplating something that is not only expensive but protects your home, is research. I asked everyone I knew for recommendations. Not only did I ask for recommendations I asked why they liked a particular company.
I narrowed the choices to three and made appointments for them all to come out. I thought the three would be basically the same with just a price difference. I could not have been more wrong.
The first two companies climbed on the roof and then handed me an estimate before leaving. I don’t think they even introduced themselves.
The third company, Aspen Roofing, was completely different. The man who came to give the estimate talked to me before getting on the roof. He told me about the company, about his experience with roofing and asked what I was looking for. Then he got on the roof.
When he was finished he came inside and discussed things like soffit and fascia, venting and types of shingles.
I was impressed and after he left I did more research online and could not find anything negative about them. Although they weren’t the cheapest they were the company I went with, because they involved me in the decisions.
They put my roof on in two days and left nothing behind. All in all my experience with this company was better than I expected.
Although we all know we should compare companies and do our research before making a major purchase, sometimes we don’t because of the time and energy involved. Take the time, do your research, you will be much happier with the result.
