Wet and Wild Summer Fun

left

The heat is on across the nation.

Less than a week after the official start of summer and residents from coast-to-coast are baking in record high temperatures.

If you have been desperately looking for a way to cool off, you aren’t alone. Millions of people have hit public pools, trekked to the beach or visited community splash pads. But, what happens if you don’t have access to the aforementioned resources?

Fortunately, there are easy ways you can beat the heat without having to travel far or spend a lot of money. Two words: Water balloons.

Don’t underestimate the power of some rubber and water. Water balloons are blast to play with on a scorching hot day. Try out these fun options and see for yourself:

Blind Water Balloon Toss: Gather the kids and split them up into teams consisting of two people each. Have players face each other with about 6 to 10 feet of space in between. Select one player to be the “thrower,” while the other is the designated “catcher.” Blindfold the catcher, and then have the thrower shout out directives as he tosses the balloon to his teammate. The team that catches the most intact water balloons wins the game.

Musical Water Balloons: Have a group of kids stand in a large circle. Turn on some music and have players toss a water balloon around the circle. At random times, cut the music. Each time the music stops, the person who is left holding the water balloon is “out.” If the water balloon breaks while the music is still playing, the person tossing and the one failing to catch the balloon are out too. The last person standing is declared the winner.

Super Shaver: For this game you will need large filled water balloons, disposable razors and shaving cream. Cover the water balloons with shaving cream and hand them to individual players. Each player needs to use a razor to remove the shaving cream from the balloon without popping it. The person who achieves the closest shave wins.
