5 Fabulous Frugal Tips for the Kitchen

1. Get organized in the kitchen. Take an inventory of what you have, what you use most often, and where you keep it. If you haven’t already done so, create a master shopping list with items you most frequently buy. For me, I have two master shopping lists – one for the grocery store, and one for the discount chain. The reason for this, is toilet paper, paper towels, baggies, and wraps are all cheaper at the discount chain – as well as detergents, fabric softeners, cleaners and a load of other products. Don’t waste your hard-earned money picking these … Continue reading

Kid Friendly Meatless Dinners

My children don’t like meat, unless it’s frozen chicken nuggets. So I’ve had to develop a variety of meatless, protein rich meals, although my husband and I usually add meat to ours. So here are a few recipes that you can use to feed the meat hater in your family. Rice and Bean Tortillas 1 cup cooked brown rice (brown has more protein and is healthier than white and your children will never notice the difference) 1 can black beans, drained ½ can enchilada sauce (freeze the other half for another meal) 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese Mix all the … Continue reading

Is Giving Meal Choices a Good Idea?

Plenty of parents I know make up separate meals for the kids and the adults or older children in the family. One mom and dad actually make an average of three different dinners each night, just to make sure that everyone in the family eats. Now I understand that certain childhood disabilities, from diabetes to autism, may require special diets, and in those cases parents have to do what they have to do. That isn’t what I am talking about.  More so, I am referring to families with healthy, average children who have fallen into the pattern of becoming short … Continue reading
