Teen With Cancer Has to Cancel Date With Taylor Swift

A few months ago, Kevin McGuire, an eighteen year old who has cancer, ended up getting a date with Taylor Swift. Unfortunately, he isn’t well, and cannot go to the Country Music Awards with her, after all. His community is showing him a ton of support, in response. Kevin McGuire was first diagnosed with cancer when he was thirteen years old. He is now eighteen, and continuing to battle the disease. Many teens have concerns about going to prom. Kevin was worried that he would not find a date for prom because he was going through chemotherapy, and believed that … Continue reading

Making The Night Shift Work For Your Family

Yesterday I talked a little bit about parents who choose to work the night shift. If you are wondering how it works on a practical level, I have decided to discuss that today. After trying a couple of different approaches to adjusting your family’s schedule to accommodate a parent working the night shift at home you will most likely find a solution that works for your family. When a family or a couple thinks of each day as a twenty four hour period of time, it is easier to find creative ways to do or have the things that you … Continue reading

When Play Dates Go Wrong, Part 2

Yesterday, I discussed a few ways to handle play dates that become nightmares. Here are some more tips to help you survive. Take a break: If your group is meeting weekly in the same setting it is possible the children are reacting out of boredom. The novelty of the new setting may be wearing off and now they are ready to push boundaries. Perhaps taking a week off will do everyone some good. It will also send a message to your child that acting poorly will result in not playing with his friends. If your child is not the one … Continue reading

Date Night

Forget the men! This one’s for the kids! Having a night once a week to spend one on one can help keep a strong relationship with your children. Between everyone’s busy schedules it can be difficult to get in that quality time with your children. They’re busy doing homework and playing with friends. You’re busy working and holding down the house. It is important not to let those things get in the way of spending time together. Set aside a night every week and don’t let anything get in the way of it. You may be overwhelmed with a project … Continue reading

Disney Party Tickets and Animal Kingdom Update

Tickets for two Magic Kingdom holiday events, Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party and Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party, are now available. This information comes via the official Disney Parks blog. Pricing and date information for both events are up at the official post. What’s funny about that, however, is that the article doesn’t contain any links to follow or phone numbers to call to actually book the tickets. All one needs to do, however, is go to the official Disney World pages detailing each event, and one is directed to the purchasing sites from there. Follow the link here for the … Continue reading

Implementing a “Sanity Night” or “Therapy Night”

The other night I went out to dinner with a friend. My pain ended up being her joy. Let me explain. She has been going through a lot of difficult stuff with one of her children. It has been months of one thing after another. I have hardly known what to say to her. While we talked a little about her circumstances, I found myself opening up about a few things concerning my teens and all of a sudden she started to laugh and laugh. I kind of sat there looking at her and wondering what is so funny about … Continue reading

Can Date Night Be Revived?

I’m going on a date with my husband tonight! We don’t get too many of those anymore, so I am really looking forward to it. After talking with a lot of my friends, I have come to the conclusion that for most couples, date night doesn’t just get put on the back burner after a new baby arrives, sometimes it gets taken off the stove altogether. I can count on one hand the number of dates we have gone on in the last year and a half. If you discount all the weddings and group things we have gone to, … Continue reading
