Valentine’s Day: Special Delivery

What will you do for your sweetie(s) for Valentine’s Day? Will you have something special delivered to work or school to say ‘be mine’? A lot of thought (not to mention cash) goes into picking out just the right things and having them delivered. I like thoughtful ideas rather than extravagant. I won’t be spending hundreds and hundreds of dollars. I won’t be sending six foot tall Teddy Bears, dozens of roses, or 10 pound heart shaped boxes of chocolate to school for my kids. I’ll just find a little something that’s cute and sweet that says Happy Valentine’s Day … Continue reading

Special Delivery: Green Options for Packing Gifts

Forget the traditional and Earth un-friendly styrofoam for packaging delicate gifts. Instead, check out these innovative and Earth friendly ideas. Have you read Sherry’s post about shopping for holiday gifts? I have to confess that I am way behind in my shopping. What makes it worse is that I’ll be shipping some of the gifts myself. Other gifts that will be given in person will still need to be carefully packaged so that they survive long drives home. But, I have never been a fan of styrofoam. It fills up the oceans and the landfills, and has a half life … Continue reading

Giving One-Hundred Percent

We got nothing less from Jesus Christ as He became a sacrifice for us. God could have saved us any way He wanted but chose to save us by brutal sacrifice on a cross. Why? I don’t know for sure. I do believe God knows exactly what it feels like to be man. He understands temptation, injustice, and pain. He understands the value we have in life itself. Our sin was so great, only God Himself could have saved us. 1 Colossians 2:9-10, “For in Him dwell all the fullness of the Godhead bodily; and you are complete in Him, … Continue reading

Save on Theme Park Fun

Spring break must be right around the corner given the number of commercials I’ve seen for various theme parks. Traveling to major amusement parks doesn’t come cheap, especially if you are planning to visit with your entire family.  Admission, coupled with parking, meals, and souvenirs can easily cost you hundreds of dollars.  Fortunately, there are ways to save on wholesome theme park fun without breaking the bank. For starters, consider looking for package deals.  Places like Disney and Universal Studios often offer discount tickets to guests bundling airfare, hotel and park admission.  In other cases, using a reputable travel agent … Continue reading

Too Much Clutter? Why It Could Be Costing You

I love January because it is my best time for de-cluttering and organizing my home and getting a fresh start. The colder weather keeps us in doors more, so not only do we notice more clutter, but we have the time to actually do something about it. Weekends are perfect for major de-cluttering and organizing sessions, but I try to fit in at least 15-30 minutes a day, each day, during the week, in order to make some real progress on our clutter. A few days ago, I attacked my food pantries. Yesterday, I started following Peter Walsh’s 31-day challenge … Continue reading

Sitting Can Kill You

Just when you start to feel pretty good about your health, a new study comes along to smash it all to smithereens.  Apparently, exercising isn’t enough if you sit on your bottom for more than six hours a day. After doing some quick calculations I realized this is the case for me.  Like millions of others, I have a desk job.  So I am pretty much forced to sit. Not only are they saying it’s bad for your health.  It could even be killing you! Why?  Our bodies go into shutdown mode when we are sitting.  Doing this for long … Continue reading

101 Dalmatians Book and Movie: Always Charming

The 1956 book “The Hundred and One Dalmatians” by Dodie Smith is a very English, very droll story of married Dalmatians Pongo and Missis, and their also-married pets, Mr. & Mrs. Dearly.  You read that right: Missis.  Perhaps the biggest surprise (to me) reading the novel on which the Disney film was based, was to discover that Pongo’s wife was not called Perdita, but Missis.  Even stranger is when a dog named Perdita appears.  She’s a liver (brown)-spotted Dalmatian that serves as a wet nurse for Missis, who cannot handle the milk load required by 15 puppies. Perdita’s own pups … Continue reading
