Last Minute Halloween Costumes

My kids are going to be involved in several Halloween or Halloween alternative activities in the next few weeks, and I have been told that different costumes may be needed for different events. Who wants to spend a fortune on store bought costumes or have to run out at the last minute when a costume need comes up? That is why I am putting a list together of quick ideas for homemade Halloween costumes. Many of the costumes can be put together with items found around your house or obtained easily at most stores without a lot of hunting. Robin … Continue reading

Why I love to shop at thrift stores

My favorite places to shop are thrift stores. I am fortunate enough to have several different ones in my hometown to choose from. Everything is sold for a very inexpensive price. I almost always find something wonderful when I shop at the thrift stores. Some of the most unique clothing I wear comes from thrift stores. I’ve found a beautiful white sweater with lacy crocheted edges, a long, black, velvet coat with lots of little buttons, and a denim skirt with ruffles on the back. I constantly get complements about how cute my capri jeans are. They have a delicately … Continue reading

Do-It-Yourself Halloween Costumes for Boys

Part of the reason I allow my 5-year-old to attend so many Halloween-related events is that I want to get the most out of the money I dropped paying for her overpriced costume. However, if your son is content with using a costume simply to trick-or-treat, then you might consider making your own. After all, why should you drain your bank account if your little guy is only going to dress up for a couple of hours on Halloween night? Save your money, and instead, rummage through your home for the materials needed to make these simple, yet creative costumes: … Continue reading

Baby Blog Month in Review: July 2008

Two of my three children are summer babies. That is, they were born in the summer and had their first months surrounded by sunshine streaming in the windows, the sound of birds chirping, and days spent wearing nothing but a diaper and a “onsie.” I made sure that they had Fourth of July outfits ready, even though one of them arrived a week after the holiday. I guess he just wasn’t interested in the parade. Do you have a summer baby, too? We had a lot of new information to share this past month, such as recall notices and new … Continue reading

Maternity Wedding Dresses

In previous years, wedding dresses were thought to give much symbolization to the marriage. A lady was only thought to have the right to wear a white gown if she was pure and had saved herself until after marriage. Our forefathers and mothers would have never dreamed of the idea of a maternity wedding gown. However, times have now proven that indeed there is a market out there for maternity wedding dresses. In fact there is a company that has completely dedicated its business to creating maternity wedding gowns for those in need. Expectant Bride is a UK company that … Continue reading

Black and White Photographs

Some people love black and white photography and some people dislike it. Some scrapbookers use black and white photographs on their scrapbook layouts and some would never even dream of it. With the full color vibrancy of today’s photographs, why do some people still choose to take and use black and white photographs on a layout? Black and white photographs are literally timeless. When color is gone from a photograph, the focus remains on the subject and it doesn’t matter what colors are used to create a layout. It doesn’t matter that the child might have been wearing a mismatched … Continue reading

Can You Answer These 15 Questions About Your Significant Other?

Recently my friend Brenda sent me one of those “Getting to Know Your Friends” questionnaires. Do you know what I’m talking about? The ones with a bunch of questions you’re supposed to answer about yourself and then send them to everyone you know. Some questions may seem really generic at first glance (like what’s your favorite color, foods, or movies), but sometimes we don’t know the answers. Or have forgotten. It’s fun to see how our friends answer. If we’re astute, we learn something. (In Brenda’s case I’m always reminded what a witty sense of humor she has.) But my … Continue reading

The Power of Feeling with The Braille Ring

I have great sympathy for anyone who has a disability. There are so many things in life that I take for granted that I never realize others miss out on. I usually never give a second though to the things that are simple to me like matching the color of my clothing in the mornings, pushing my children on a swing, and listening to music in my car. However, these things do come so easy for some. Like the other things, I had never really thought about people who have never seen their wedding dress or their husband’s face or … Continue reading

Congratulations! You’re getting married. Have you decided what type of vehicle you will be riding in to and from the church?
