Strengthen Our Youth

One important role that every adult in the church plays is to strengthen the youth. This is an important thing, since the youth will be the future leaders of society. They are also facing a world that is more wicked, then when we were youth. As parents it is important to lay a firm foundation so that your children know the gospel and can make their decisions based on that knowledge. Here are four things that you can do to strengthen the youth.

1) Family prayer and scripture study are very important ways that you can help to strengthen your children in the gospel. As you pray together each day, your children will feel the spirit and the peace that comes to your home. As you study the scriptures together you will have a chance to discuss the teachings of Christ and the commandments. The scriptures illustrate that there are consequences for your actions. They also teach about repentance and the Atonement.

2) Another great way to strengthen your children is to have family home evening each week. This is a night devoted to sharing the gospel with your children. You can teach on principles that your children might be struggling with. You can bear your testimony to your children and the spirit can bear witness as well. It is also a wonderful bonding time for families, and can strengthen your relationship with each other. It helps you to spend time together as a family.

3) You need to set an example for your children. Your children can gain strength from your example in living the gospel. An excellent example of this is in Alma when we learn about the stripling warriors. They did not doubt because their mothers’ testimonies were so strong. The best way to guide your children is by leading them down the right path.

4) Be available for your children. The more time you spend with your children the stronger they will be. As you listen to their questions as young children, and respond in a positive manner, they are more likely to continue to do this into their teenage years. If your children know that you will not judge them harshly, they will come to you when they are in need of counsel.
